Throughout this week, I learned about codes and conventions and how they apply to media studies. I learned that codes—either technical, written, or symbolic—are a set of signs used to construct or suggest meaning in media forms and products. Conventions, on the other hand, are generally accepted patterns of code that communicate a particular message. I used this knowledge when selecting two recent magazines within my genre ("Cooking, Food, and Beverage") and describing how they appeal to their audiences. To do this, I not only analyzed each magazine's codes and conventions but also their graphic elements.
Magazine #1: BAKE FROM SCRATCH

Magazine #2: Food Network Magazine
