As my class and I recently completed our two genre photoshoots, we are currently selecting our final magazine genre and approaching further research on magazine creation. Based on my experience with my two photoshoots—"Cooking, Food, and Beverage" and "Science and Nature"—I decided to select my personal favorite genre which I believe I was most successful with...
Cooking, Food, and Beverage!!
First of all, it is worth noting that learning about several genres so far has been significantly beneficial when deciding which one to consider for my final magazine, not to mention highly fascinating. As I was presented with an array of usable genres, I was able to conduct research and analyze which one I believed would be the best fit for my photoshoots and, of course, magazine. Besides being enjoyable, my experience with my two photoshoots was well-executed despite encountering some obstacles in the process. More specifically, while some pictures were not as professional-looking with crowded backgrounds and harsh shadows, others had proper natural lighting, were not blurry, and looked visually appealing overall! During these two photoshoots, I was also able to significantly improve my photography skills by learning more camera-related tips and tricks, experimenting with new shots and angles, and exploring my iPhone camera's features.
I have learned from my succeses and failures from these two photoshoots, and I will implement my new knowledge for my future photoshoots!

(Harsh Shadows) (Crowded Backgrounds)
In this case, I selected the "Cooking, Food, and Beverage" genre since I have more experience photographing food than nature, leading me to believe that I can easily take pictures of higher quality. Plus, as someone who enjoys trying and photographing new dishes at restaurants, this genre may be the most convenient for me as it exposes me to more photography opportunities. While I undoubtedly feel happy choosing this genre as my final choice, I would have also liked to shoot more animals in the "Science and Nature" genre after somewhat failing to do so in my second genre photoshoot. Regarding my selected genre, I wish I explored more ways to photograph a dish by experimenting with different angles, lighting, and focuses. Yet, I believe that my first photoshoot based on my final genre was still ideal and will contribute spectacular photos for my magazine. Plus, there are always opportunities for more photoshoots!
In this case, this magazine will be different from others in this genre since it will not share any recipes and will instead showcase food for the audience to possibly learn about a new cuisine. By displaying food that an audience may have never seen before, it will be able to stand out and attract the attention of several social groups. Particularly, some examples include families that can afford to eat out at gourmet yet reasonably priced restaurants, home cooks that may want to search for food inspiration, "foodies," etc. In other words, my magazine would attract readers with similar interests, proving that my target audience is relatively homogenous: most viewers have one main interest (food). Yet, my target audience can be seen as somewhat broad since it attracts people from different backgrounds, ages, income levels, geographic locations, etc. In order to properly serve these social groups, I would ensure that my magazine personally and meaningfully connects with my audience. Essentially, this is relevant since it can make my magazine more entertaining and relatable.
