Throughout this course so far, I have read several digital and print magazines from different publications and genres all over the world. In doing so, I have grasped an idea of the content included in most magazines, therefore allowing me to brainstorm ideas of how I want my own magazine to look. Below are the ideas I brainstormed for my double-page spread and final photoshoot.
Double-Page Spread
Through my double-page spread research, I discovered one of my personal favorite "cooking, food, and beverage" magazines...Oishii, a quarterly cooking magazine from Singapore that educates readers about Japanese cuisine. What fascinated me the most was that this publication only produces magazines about Asian cuisine unlike most magazines, which are broader and share food from multiple cuisines. In fact, while researching magazines to examine their covers, double-page spreads, or table of contents, it was often difficult to find a magazine that produced content strictly about Asian food. Therefore, I was thrilled to stumble upon Oishii!
After reading this article, I have come to the conclusion that I would also like to create an INTERVIEW-BASED ARTICLE!
Why I chose an interview:
I will be able to gather in-depth, meaningful information about my topic. In turn, I can present this information in a visually appealing manner on my double-page spread.
Who and where I will conduct my interview:
I have chosen to interview a chef at a local Asian restaurant, Hoishi & Sushi Asian Cuisine.
Photoshoots
As an interview-based article, I will conduct two photoshoots for my final magazine.
Photoshoot #1
I will conduct my first photoshoot at the previously mentioned restaurant, where I will photograph the restaurant's dishes, and if possible, the chefs cooking in the kitchen...behind the scenes!
Photoshoot #2
Then, I will conduct another photoshoot at my house, replicating either one of the restaurant's dishes or any suggested dish from the chef. Specifically, I am planning on asking the chef what dish they think is the easiest for my target audience to make at home, so I will create whatever dish they say!
